Carol Schliesinger is a first year graduate student of the
School of Journalism at the University of Texas. She is particularly
interested in covering health care, labor rights and gender issues in
China. Previously Schliesinger worked as the Director of Public
Relations at Southwest Mental Health Center, a nonprofit psychiatric
hospital for children in South Texas. Schliesinger also worked for
Montemayor y Asociados, a Hispanic advertising agency. Her clients
included Continental Airlines, Daimler Chrysler, and the Internal
Revenue Service. Schliesinger serves on the board of directors of the
San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. She has also served on
the board of the San Antonio Women's Chamber of Commerce and the San
Antonio Chapter of the PRSA. She also volunteered with the Bexar County
Mental Health Taskforce, San Antonio Mental Health Association, Blue
Ribbon Task Force on Child Abuse and the National Alliance for the
Mentally Ill. Schliesinger received the 2006 PRSA Del Oro Horizon Award
and was named "2006 Employee of the Year" at Southwest Mental Health
Center. She received the San Antonio Business Journal Health
Care Hero Award for Community Outreach in 2005. Originally from
Argentina, Schliesinger obtained a bachelor's degree in International
Business & Marketing from St. Mary's University in San Antonio,
Texas.
